I happen to be one of those who likes the new branding direction of the Brooklyn Nets. The team, owned by rapper Jay-Z, is moving out of New Jersey and into the Brooklyn scene. Everyone associates Brooklyn with a hip scene, which is why Jay-Z and his graphic design team stripped down the logo to what people may think is “boring.” Yet, I think it is refreshing to take a step back from over-done shading, and 3d renderings of logos, which don’t always add to the meaning behind the brand.
The website is successful in keeping the simple, stark, and bold black and white color scheme with an all-caps sans-serif typeface, which stands out from its competitors. What other team has as modern, edgy, and memorable of a website? Plus, there’s no doubt Brooklyners can respect the consideration in this design- and its nice to be supported by the locals… what do you think about the design?
